It is my desire to honor all who served in our armed forces. That's why I sponsor the Veterans Special Recognition Ceremony every year. These men and women answered the call of duty. Some served during war time; some kept the peace. All were willing to put their lives at risk to protect our freedom and democracy. This ceremony will help show our appreciation.
Over the past 11 years, I have recognized more than 2,000 veterans who served during the periods of World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, and Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. The 2012 ceremony recognized the contributions of all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including the Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and National Guard during Operation Desert Shielf and Operation Desert Storm.
Application information for the 2013 ceremony, including the date of the ceremony, the period in history that will be recognized, and the qualifications will be posted at a later date.
