Congressman Crenshaw here.

This week, the House voted on bipartisan legislation in the effort to eradicate homelessness. I also attended a round table at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to discuss human trafficking and met with representatives from TxDOT Houston to hear about infrastructure improvement projects happening in our community.

As a reminder to TX-02 residents, please reach out to my offices if you have a concern, want to hear what we’re working on in Congress, or are having trouble with a federal agency. addressing a bipartisan issue: homelessness
This week, the House voted on bipartisan legislation - this time in an effort to address homelessness. H.R. 4302, the Homeless Assistance Act, helps to end homelessness by encouraging better communication between government agencies to ensure the homeless have better access to the resources they need.

Houston is a great example of how improved inter-agency communication, particularly between the private and public sectors, can help mitigate homelessness. Since 2011, homelessness in Houston has decreased by 54% - in part because local and federal organizations are able to work together to provide the Houston homeless population with the resources they need to overcome their challenges and pursue a better life.

working with allies to end human trafficking
I joined Rep. Ann Wagner (MO-02) for a round table hosted by acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf to discuss the fight to end human trafficking. Human trafficking is all too prevalent in our country and it’s imperative that we do all we can to address it, both in TX-02 and nationally.

I’m grateful to work with strong partners in Congress and the Executive Branch in this mission. Together, we can make our country a safer place.

improving houston transportation and infrastructure
Houston is on its way to being the third largest city by population in the country. That being said, it's imperative that our city's infrastructure can keep up with Houston's rapid expansion.

That's why my meeting with TxDOT Houston was all the more important. We discussed projects happening in Houston that will improve roadways and traffic conditions in our community. I'm happy to work with people like the TxDOT team to make sure Houston infrastructure is able to maintain the growing population.

remembering dr. martin luther king jr.
Today we honor and celebrate one of our nation's most influential civil rights advocates, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King's message was just as important then as it is now: more unites us than divides us. Today, let his legacy of determination, justice and equality for all Americans remind us that while we may have different opinions and come from different walks of life, we are all blessed to enjoy the freedoms of this country.
