WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Dan Crenshaw (TX-02) has introduced H.R. 223, the Preventing Unjust Red Flag Laws Act, a bill aimed at prohibiting federal funding for the implementation and enforcement of federal red flag laws. The bill also bars the federal government from providing financial assistance to state, local, tribal, or territorial governments for the enforcement of such laws.

Background:

  • The bill prohibits the use of federal funds for enforcing federal red flag laws or assisting state and local governments in implementing them.
  • Red flag laws allow for the temporary seizure of firearms based on claims that an individual may pose a risk to themselves or others, often without proper due process protections.
  • The legislation reaffirms the right of Americans to due process and Second Amendment protections, preventing federal overreach into state-level firearm regulations.
  • Congressman Crenshaw has been a strong advocate for protecting gun rights and ensuring that laws affecting firearms uphold constitutional protections.

The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee for consideration.
