WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Dan Crenshaw successfully secured an important legislative victory today with the advancement of the Crenshaw Amendment, a provision prohibiting Medicaid, CHIP, and Affordable Care Act funds from being used for gender-transition procedures on minors.
The Crenshaw Amendment specifically amends Section 1903(i) of the Social Security Act, halting federal payment for what the amendment classifies as medically unnecessary procedures. Recent polls consistently indicate overwhelming American opposition to providing children with puberty blockers and irreversible surgeries.
"The Crenshaw Amendment will become law—and it’s long overdue," Congressman Crenshaw stated. "Gender transition procedures are the lobotomy of our generation. So-called 'gender-affirming care' isn’t healthcare—it’s fringe science with no proven benefit and massive risks."
Broad Support for Crenshaw Amendment:
“Kids are not experiments and the government shouldn’t be funding these sterilizations and mutilations. We should’ve learned our lesson from the Tuskegee Experiments a generation ago and I pray we can end this new but just as evil experimentation on vulnerable children. When a child is struggling, he or she needs compassionate care – not experimental hormones and surgery.” – President and CEO, Craig DeRoche
“For too long, children have fallen victim to physical mutilation, sterilization, and extreme mental health problems paid for by the federal government. Eagle Forum is pleased with the House Energy & Commerce Committee's Crenshaw Amendment to prohibit funding of gender transition procedures on minors. We urge every Member regardless of party to defund this barbaric practice.” – Kris Ullman, President of Eagle Forum
“Thanks to Representative Crenshaw for being a tireless leader in the fight to end taxpayer funding of experimental and irreversible sex change treatments on minors. These interventions have caused immense harm to American children, creating lifelong patients. With the help of Representative Crenshaw, we are another step closer to rooting out this misguided and unscientific practice." - Dr. Kurt Miceli, Medical Director, Do No Harm
